Legendary race official, Dave Pym, passed away on 3rd January at the age of 83. Kitzbühel Ski Club extends its sincere condolences to the Canadian skiing family and Dave’s closest relatives for their loss. The Club will always cherish special memories of Dave.
Kitzbühel Ski Club recently received sad news of the passing of legendary Canadian race official, Dave Pym. Our friend Dave was originally an insurance attorney in Vancouver. He met Kitzbühel ski legend, Toni Sailer, during a summer ski camp attended by his sons in Whistler Mountain and subsequently began a career as ski official with the Canadian Ski Association. In addition to his role as active technical delegate, he would later become full-time coordinator for the Canadian Ski Association and its sub-associations for various winter sports disciplines.
Dave Pym was an official jury member in his capacity as FIS Technical Delegate at the Hahnenkamm Downhill and Super-G three times between 2001 and 2003. He was also present in Kitzbühel as a federation representative at all four Canadian Downhill victories (1980 Ken Read, 1981 and 1982 Steve Podporski, 1983 Todd Brooker) and at Thomas Grandi's second place in the slalom in 2004.
Under the auspices of KSC presidents Christian Poley and Michael Huber, he held the position of Deputy Chairman of the FIS Alpine Rules Sub-Committee for an incredible 30 years from 1992 to 2022 and was also named an honorary member of this sub-committee in 2023.
Kitzbühel Ski Club extends its sincere condolences to the Canadian skiing family and Dave’s closest relatives for their loss. The Club will always cherish special memories of Dave.
