Straight to the Finish Line with the ÖBB Hahnenkammexpress
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the ÖBB Hahnenkammexpress, which connects Kirchberg, Kitzbühel and St. Johann in Tirol, takes ski fans quickly, comfortably and sustainably (almost) directly to their destination. Those arriving by car are advised to park in the large car parks in Kirchberg or Oberndorf, then hop on the Hahnenkammexpress. Race fans are recommended to arrive very early on Saturday.
Kitzbühel race weekend would be unthinkable without ÖBB Austrian Federal Railways. The tried-and-tested Hahnenkammexpress has been on track for 30 years. On the race days from 23 to 25 January, it ensures that fans can travel to and from the legendary races on the Streif and Ganslernhang slopes in a relaxed and sustainable manner. The free shuttle, commissioned by the Hahnenkamm Race Organisers, will run at frequent intervals between Kirchberg, Kitzbühel and St. Johann in Tirol. The Kitzbühel Hahnenkamm railway station, just a few minutes' walk from the finish area, makes the train the most convenient means of transport for thousands of fans. If you are travelling by car from Munich, Salzburg or Vienna, please park at the Hahnenkamm-Rennen car park in Oberndorf (between St. Johann and Kitzbühel) and change to the Hahnenkammexpress. If you are travelling by car from Switzerland, Vorarlberg, Bolzano or Innsbruck, please park at the Hahnenkamm-Rennen car park in Kirchberg and take the Hahnenkammexpress from there. On Saturday, the day of the Downhill race, you should arrive at the car parks no later than 9:00 hrs to reach the finish area comfortably, without having to rush. More information on travelling by car can be found here.
More capacity – up to 900 people per train
With more than 400 stops and 84,000 additional seats, ÖBB is well prepared. At peak times, trains run at 7.5-minute intervals – similar to a metropolitan regional train. This ensures safe, comfortable and environmentally friendly travel. To handle the large fan crowds as efficiently as possible, the new ÖBB Cityjet Siemens DML trains will also be used in dual traction for the first time this year. This means each train can accommodate around 900 people.
Special train for Saturday
On the day of the classic Downhill Race, a direct train will run from Innsbruck (via the Innsbruck bypass) to Kitzbühel Hahnenkamm. For timetable details, please refer to the ÖBB timetable information system ‘Scotty’.
ÖBB has been an indispensable partner of Kitzbühel Ski Club since 1997. To mark the anniversary, the successful collaboration has been extended until 2029. Over the past three decades, around 1.3 million visitors have taken advantage of the free rail service – a clear sign of sustainable mobility at major events. This contract guarantees that environmentally friendly travel to the Hahnenkamm Race will continue to be expanded and optimised in the coming years.
