Mother Hulda brings a touch of winter to Kitzbühel
A smattering of snow fell over Kitzbühel during the night before Christmas Eve. Although Mother Hulda’s visit was only brief, the Streif and Ganslern racecourses remain in excellent condition.
One couldn’t describe the snowfall that settled over Kitzbühel and its surrounding mountains during the night of 23rd to 24th December as heavy. Still, it was sufficient to transform the landscape into a wintry wonderland – similar to earlier this month, when winter made a rather more dramatic entrance.
For now, the slopes of Mount Hahnenkamm still belong to leisure skiers, snowboarders, locals and guests alike. Soon, however, they must surrender their favourite ski playground to the protagonists of the Ski World Cup, who are moving into town by no later than 20th January, when the first Downhill training session is scheduled. The ski racing extravaganza begins with the Super-G on 23rd January, followed by the Downhill on 24th January and Slalom on the 25th. Tickets are available exclusively via the online shop.
Conditions on both the speed and slalom courses are excellent: “Thanks to the early onset of winter at the beginning of December, the Streif and Ganslern are blessed with a superb snow base. Now we need to sit back and be patient during these beautiful sunny days leading up to the Christmas holidays. Winter will undoubtedly return,“ says Organising Committee Chairman, Michael Huber, with confidence. Sunshine is on the cards again in Kitzbühel from Christmas Day onwards – accompanied by suitably wintry temperatures.
The entire Hahnenkamm Race Organising Committee wishes everyone a happy holiday season and memorable moments on the slopes of Kitzbühel!
