BKW Partners with the Hahnenkamm Races

Energy and infrastructure company BKW (Bernische Kraftwerke) is expanding its involvement in winter sports from 2027. The international company, headquartered in Bern, Switzerland, will become a Premium Partner of the Hahnenkamm Races.

The Streif and Ganslern racecourses pose major challenges not only for the world’s top ski racers. Year after year, preparing the courses demands the utmost precision and state-of-the-art infrastructure. BKW Engineering has been involved in developing this infrastructure for many years. From 2027, the international energy and infrastructure company from Switzerland will also become a partner of the Hahnenkamm Races.

The connection between BKW and Kitzbühel goes back well beyond this new partnership. The company has already been involved in several infrastructure projects in the region, including piste construction, the Walde ski tunnel and the pressure-reducing station at Fleckalm.

The modernisation of snowmaking infrastructure in the Seidlalm area, which became operational in autumn 2024, is particularly important for ski racing. These technical improvements have reduced the time required to produce snow for the Streif, Ganslern, Familienstreif and Kampen courses from 170 to around 80 hours. This is a significant development, particularly given the exacting requirements involved in preparing World Cup courses. BKW Engineering is also involved in projects elsewhere in the region, including the Sonnenrast reservoir, which is nearing completion and will be used in both winter and summer.

The new partnership expands BKW’s involvement in winter sports. The company operates in the fields of energy, buildings and infrastructure and employs more than 12,500 people worldwide. “BKW has been a reliable and committed partner in snow sports for many years. We are therefore delighted to continue and further develop this commitment together at the Hahnenkamm Races,” says Marco Schlegel, CEO of the WWP Group, the races’ marketing partner.

With BKW on board, this prestigious World Cup event gains a new partner that not only understands the specific demands of alpine skiing but has also been actively involved in developing the infrastructure around Kitzbühel for many years.
