Results 1st EC-Training

The Austrians and Italians took over in the first Europacup-Downhill training on the Streif. After Saturday’s cancelled training, the ÖSV-Athletes (Austrian Ski Association) were on top form on Sunday. Daniel Danklmeier was the fastest, completing his run in 1:24,17 minutes, his fellow countryman Johannes Kröll only 5 hundredths of a second behind. Werner Heel from Italy came third (+0,15 sec). Sebastian Arzt (AUT), Thomas Mayrpeter (AUT), Henri Battilani (ITA) Joachim Puchner (AUT), Daniel Hemetsberger (AUT), Davide Cazzaniga (ITA) and Stian Saugestad (NOR) made it into the Top 10. “On the whole, the Downhill is great to ski on, we couldn’t wish for a better training for the World Cup”, agreed the Austrian racers Sebastian Arzt and Christoph Krenn (35^th place). “It was an awesome run for our first attempt. Now we know what can expect for the World Cup” Niklas Köck (AUT) also sees this training as a preparation for the World Cup, even though he didn’t make it to the finish line. “I had a bumpy start and lost my outer ski, but everything should be alright tomorrow. Luckily, the ski is fine, too”, the up and coming athlete assured. Salzburg’s Georg Streitberger (AUT/22^nd place) is already familiar with the World Cup-Downhill and has the following to say about his comeback after last years’ injury on the Hahnenkamm: “My respect for this course hasn’t changed, though we won’t be skiing over my crash site in the Europacup. I’ll see how the race goes tomorrow, the course is quite bumpy and my knees are still playing up. I’ll decide tomorrow whether I want to compete in the World Cup Downhill or not.” A second training will take place Sunday afternoon. The official opening ceremony of the Hahnenkamm-Raceweek will take place at 18:30. Part of the programme will be the public bib draw for the Europacup Downhill.
