"I hereby declare the Hahnenkamm Race Week as open." With these words, K.S.C. President and Chairman of the Hahnenkamm-Race Michael Huber delivered the starting shot for the Hahnenkamm Race Week on Sunday evening at Kitzbühel Legend Park. Mayor Klaus Winkler wished the athletes and spectators an "accident-free, exciting and fair competition". The Hahnenkamm Race Week begins on Monday (10:15 hrs) with the Europacup Downhill on the Streif.
The official welcome for the Europacup teams was followed by a parade of the participating nations, after which the start numbers for the EC Downhill were drawn. The race will be opened by Swiss athlete Sven Hermann. Sebastian Arzt, who competes with start number 11 is already looking forward to the new challenge. "Tomorrow is going to be exciting", said the Austrian. Norwegian, Stian Suagestad (start number 16) is keen to compete on the Streif and intends to finish amongst the "Top 5". Christoph Krenn is also very satisfied with his start number. "I won my first Europacup Race with bib number 18. Maybe it is a good omen. I intend to deliver a decent performance", explained the Austrian.
